Double L® Large Arbor Fly Reel is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Reel! I own both the Double L Large Arbor Fly Reel and the streamlight LL Bean Fly Reel. Both great reels. The Double L does seem to be a little nicer but both are great. 3wt or 4wt I would go streamlight and 5wt is a toss up 6wt and up I would go Double L Large Arbor Fly Reel. Also I am a gear snob and fish a Scott Radian 5wt, Asquith 4wt, and a Sage X 691. These LL Bean fly reels are very good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Way Better than I Imagined I'm a huge fan of LL Bean fly fishing products. My first setup was an LL Bean rod and reel and I almost always recommend an LL Bean setup to someone when they are looking to pick up fly fishing. In general, I don't think you can beat the price point, fun-to-fish-factor, or warranty. So when my drag ceased to work on my on an older LL SL Ultra 3, I picked up one of these Double L's. I honestly hadn't read much about the specs but figured it would perform admirably for bass fishing and large trout. Boy oh boy was I handicapping this reel before I even put it through its paces. A trip to the Bahamas and a trip to Venice, LA later, I'm convinced this may be the greatest 8wt reel ever, at least at this price point. Super smooth, strong, sealed drag. Balances great on my current 8wt rod. Easy to clean and easy to adjust the drag. It's not as large of a diameter as some of the competition but it doesn't matter, the mid-arbor design is excellent. Here's some proof. With an 8wt bent to the cork and reel doing it's magic. 23 pounds of LA red. If you're looking upgrade from an entry level reel, are looking for a sturdy backup, or a reel capable of handling saltwater species on 6-8wts, this is it. Now only if they made one size larger for 10-12wts.... Keep up the great work guys!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from How much does this reel weigh? With rods getting lighter and lighter because of new graphite/epoxy technologies, it is important to know the weight of the reel to see if it will balance with a fly rod. An L.L. Bean "expert" gave me the following weights for the various size reels: Reel 1 - 5.5 ounces Reel 2 - 5.9 ounces Reel 3 - 6.5 ounces The size 1 and 2 are about an ounce heavier than the much more expensive "premium" reel brands - only an issue if you have one of the new very light "premium" rods. The size 3 is impressive for its weight at this price point. In this day and age with consumers asking for more information, I am surprised L.L. Bean does not also list the actual diameter of the various reel sizes, as well as the maximum drag. I would also love to see a statement as to whether there is minimum startup inertia - don't want to break a fragile tippet because it takes a bigger pull to get the reel turning than the drag that is actually set.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful and smooth What a great reel for a great deal. It is well built and has a very smooth drag. You can probably not find a real of this high quality for the money anywhere else. It is beautiful to look at and the color is gorgeous.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it I now have 4 of these reels. Sealed disc drag is smooth and quiet. I have several much more expensive reels but his reel is every bit as pleasant to fish with. Fish it extensively in salt and fresh water, never had any trouble with them. I don't see any room for improvement, and for the price you cant go wrong.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LL Large Arbor Reel for 5 & 6 wt Line The reel matches my LLBean Double LL 5wt fly rod perfectly. I'm satisfied with both the reel and Rio Perfection Fly line purchases and the option to trade out lines as wanted. The rod itself is excellent. It punches out both small and large flies nicely and is particularity sensitive to takes when nymphing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid, but uncertain future Bought this looking for a lower priced Korean made reel with good reviews. I own some repairable USA made reels and some Korean made. Cannot justify every reel being pricey, so tried this one. Quality is very good - similar to Sage 4280 in weight, refined feel and arbor size - max drag feels stronger than Sage but maybe not quite as smooth at normal lower settings. Will probably keep this as steelhead type reel and out of the salt. No complaints so far but what about long term? With warranty change at Bean, what happens when there is a problem later I can't fix? Then perhaps not such a bargain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from NICE reel! Beautiful to look at, and nice, solid, "feel." Size #2 is appropriate for 8'-9' rods. The large arbor has plenty of capacity for backing and line. It was easy to change from left-hand to right-hand retrieval. I recommend without reservation.
