Adults' Wool-Lined Waxed-Cotton Fowler's Cap is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 123.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Disappointing I had been wanting to get one of these caps for awhile, but was disappointed when it actually came. First, the cap is NOT waxed canvas and doesn't look like the product photo on the L.L. Bean website. It's a fairly nice canvas cap, but has no hint of a wax finish. I like the wool blend lining, which would make the hat perfect for chilly weather when it's not cold enough to need ear flaps. The real deal breaker for me was the sizing. I have a fairly large head, size 7½, and the cap was just too small for me. It sat up above my ears and made me look like I was wearing a child's cap. It might work for someone with a smaller head, but I returned it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice hats, but fit varied I wanted a waxed canvas hat and I am a no frills kind of guy, so I wanted something plain and solid in color. That is why I liked the look of these. I ordered 2 of these hats (in different colors) one had a minor split in the top seam, but fit great. The other was a bit shorter in fit. In otherwise it sat up higher on my head instead of fitting down around my head. By quite a bit. So I just ordered two more hoping that the fit of the replacements would be better. And they were. They are good for adding a little warmth on a colder day. Overall a very good hat. But the manufacture may vary some by way of fit. I wish they also made an un-insulated version.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A really quality hat I am a person that likes hats. Because I shave my head, I want something of good quality and comfortable. This hat not only fits what I want but is made of material that I could not find anywhere else other than LL Bean. The wool liner keeps my head warm and does not scratch my head. It is extremely comfortable. The waxed cotton is perfect during those cold, windy, wet days we so frequently have during our Utah winters. A leather strap at the back is an added plus for a firm wear. I can't say enough about the quality of this hat and how good it looks. It not only deserves a 5-star but exceeds all expectations even for LL Bean, which is a very high compliment.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great hat, NOT at all water resitant This hat is very well made, however, the waxed finish is lacking to say the least. It has ZERO water resistance. Even a pinhead-sized water drop doesn't bead, it absorbs immediately. I bought this to wear during walks on snowy days here in Montana. This hat will not be useful in those conditions. The construction, weight, and wool-blend liner seem great. I love the fit and comfort. Just call this a wool-lined hat. Don't call it water resistant (it's not), and don't call it waxed cotton. I can tell from the touch that some type of wax was involved, but it's completely ineffective in resisting water. Step up the waxing or quit marketing it as such. Also, like most products today, this was made in China. Would pay more for USA made product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best hat I've ever owned! I bought this hat to wear on a five-day Alaska grizzly hunt, and it performed flawlessly! It's more of a skull cap with a rigid bill than a baseball-styled cap in that it fits very close to head without any space between the inner wool liner and your scalp. As such, it's not a warm weather hat. In fact, I had to remove it occasionally even in 35 degree weather to avoid excessive heat build up. It's very water resistant and sheds rain like a duck's back. The bill has a nice "set" to it and fits close enough to the brow to use it with a scoped rifle without having to turn it around "rap' style while shooting. I like this hat so much that I'm going to order a spare in case Bean ever decides to discontinue it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Extremely short crown My head isn't small, but I have a number of caps that fit well and cover a reasonable amount of my head. I expected a wool-lined cap to function as a piece of outerwear - something that would help keep me warm. This cap failed in spectacular fashion. I don't want caps like this to cover my ears, but this one rested a good TWO INCHES above where my ear connects to my head. That's not a cap, it's a child's beanie. It was returned.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fitted would be better The wool lined waxed canvas ball cap is a good product but there is room for improvement. The cap would really be a winner if it were "fitted" either by hat size, or S-M-L-XL, or with the elastic stretch-fit found in other ball caps. I was surprised the % of wool in the lining wasn't higher. I have a baseball cap made from whipcord wool with the elastic stretch-fit from the outfitter on the other coast and it is without question the best cap I've ever owned. They stopped making this model shortly after I purchased mine and that's unfortunate. LL Bean should make one.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Update on Previous 5 Star Review I had this for about 1.5 years and loved it. Then the top 'button' broke off. It's plastic and held on by a small metal wood screw from below. Won't glue on. Plastic threads are stripped. Would just leave it off but now there's a tiny wood screw sticking out of my head, like a mini Pickelhaube... (I had to google that). Anyway, I have about half a dozen baseball caps with similar construction and have never seen this happen before - some of those are pushing 20y old. Bummer, I liked this hat.
