Rated 5 out of 5 by from love this hat! I have never loved a hat before. This hat - I love. It is very lightweight and very comfortable, and kept my head, neck, forehead and ears toasty warm on long walks in a Connecticut winter, even on cold, windy nights. Despite covering my ears, it doesn't block sound the way earmuffs or many hats have. I used to try to keep warm with a hat, fleece neck gaiter and/or scarf - this is better. Take the sizing information seriously. I thought the small/medium would fit as I didn't think my head was large but I had to send it back in exchange for the large/extra large. Did I mention that I love this hat?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super warm Anyone who says this hat isn't warm is wrong. It may not look the part when you first see it, but I've been using it for years, and even in below-0 degree Fahrenheit weather it blocks the cold out almost entirely! The clasp is a bit tricky, and if you have manual dexterity issues or are wearing thick gloves it's likely to be a problem, but I've never really had an issue with it. Also the hat works without clasping, though if there's a strong windchill it does partially expose the ears. In slightly warmer weather I sometimes fasten the clasp on top of my head to keep the ear flaps out of the way, which can be a convenient way to wear it as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice warm hat with ear flaps I like this hat, it is really cold in upstate NY in the winters. For days it's below 35 degrees, I put on this hat I just got. My ears stay warm. The tie under the chin is too small and a bit hard to snap together, and it's a bit tight on me. I would have LL Bean fix that issue. I read reviews where customers noted that, but I still thought I would enjoy the warm hat. If it's windy I have to put the strap on because it blows right off my head. I know I will have this for many years. By the time it wears out, I'm hoping to be living in Florida where I may retire to. LOL......

Rated 1 out of 5 by from poor, poor quality! There is NOTHING ultra warm about this hat; the faux fur is scraggly and thin, the hat's insulation is almost non-existent and the earflaps are not in the right place to cover your whole ear. I used to have a bunny fur bomber hat that was fabulous, but I was always a bit guilty about the real fur thing... PLEASE, if you want to substitute faux fur, make it good quality. I am not sure what is happening at LL Bean lately , as I have not been happy with the last few things I bought. Sadly, it seems that the days of knowing that anything you buy will be well made are gone; I hope I am wrong

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favorite winter hat! I've used this hat through two winters -- it is, by far, the warmest hat I have ever had. The material is also windproof, which helps enormously. Not a fan of how it looks (mad bomber hats in general), but I wear it at a barn and my head and ears are never cold. I pair it with a fleece neck warmer, so my chin and mouth (and nose, on some days!) are covered. The combination ensures I can stay out in the bitter cold for hours. The clasp is a little difficult to work, especially if your fingers are cold. If you have arthritis in your hands, this may not be the hat for you (or consider replacing the existing strap/closure with elastic).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from RUNS SMALL!!! Thankfully I saw the reviews in time and exchanged it for L/XL! It is snug on my head at the temples which measures 21.5" circ. but is comfy and accommodates my hip length fine silver in a low/nape bun. Well made and very warm. I have no problem unclasping it and I have arthritic fingers, but I was also used to the same clips on my mittens. It covers your whole forehead and head to the nape. With the ear flaps down it even keeps your chin line warm. You can also flip the flaps up and clasp it over the back....and it still covers your ears completely. and stays secure on your head. Very happy!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very cute on ones head! I wanted a bomber hat for walking at the beach/ocean in Maine in winter. It's easy walking at low tide, but the wind goes right through all my hats and freezes my ears. This one has no rabbit fur from China, which is a priority for me, but it turns out not to be very warm. Fortunately I got the large, as recommended on here! It is a good fit on my very small head with thick hair, but I can also fit a regular L.L. Bean knit winter hat under it for warmth at the ocean. PERFECT! I'd recommend the large. Maybe in their next design they can make this one warmer, but this is good for now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great winter head-cover! This hat is absolutely great, I love it! New York is having a cold winter again, after a few mild years. This year has brought bitter, vicious winds, and I'm SO glad I had bought this; the S/M size fits nicely and covers the slight back-of-the-neck gap of my hooded parka (the hood is zip-off) so that the wind doesn't get to me. I also bought LL Bean's matching mittens and love those too. most winters I need to wear gloves plus mittens, but these mittens have been good even without gloves inside. My glove size is usually 7-1/2 or 8, and the Bean gloves M size is good.
