Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bucket List item Fulfilled I have wanted a pair of these 16" Main Hunting boots since I was a teenager (I'm now 64 for reference.) Though they are advertised as hunting boots, I bought them specifically for fishing. Their waterproof qualities was an important factor for me when tramping along river banks in wet or muddy soil. (I have my eye on a pair of insulated Maine Hunting boots.) The 16" top gives me a margin of error if I need to wade across a shallow part of the stream, plus they just exude that cool outdoorsman utility. As for sizing I order my regular size 12 and I also order some thick wool socks. They fit hand in glove. Could not be more pleased.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Lots of Ankle room Purchased these for pheasant hunting. First, you have to special order the hook and loops instead of lace holes for the upper part of the boot or it'll take you a ton of time to lace them up. The biggest issue I had is the ankle/calf area. There is A LOT of material in terms of circumference. I cannot lace them tight enough to form on my lower calf and i don't have tiny ankles. There is so much weight above them that they sag, and break into my achilles, which guarantees a blister on any sort of hunt/walk. My only thought is to buy some 80s style ankle warmers to stuff inside the boots so they stay up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for wet New England Woods Once the leather & stitching is properly waterproofed, these boots are perfect for walks in wet New England woods and boggy meadows. (For waterproofing, I heated the boots by my wood stove and then used a popular wax product liberally on the leather & stitching, allowing it to melt into the material). With the soft sole, you can feel the ground beneath your feet. My test run was a 5 mile bushwack up along a stream in the woods, and across beaver meadows and dams. I'm happy with my purchase & hope to use these boots on canoe trips next year. For a trifle extra, I ordered these Maine Hunting Shoes with hooks rather than eyelets on the leather uppers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from IMPRESSIVE! I bought my 16" shoes in 1976! I was very satisfied when I first put them on as they felt like I had been wearing them for years. With minimal effort on my part (mink oil, every season) and many years of tromping around in the Louisiana mud, briar patches, etc., these boots are still going strong. They even came through a couple of times when I ran afoul of a cranky cottonmouth and kept his fangs on the outside of the boots. I am finally sending them in for a new pair of bottoms. They deserve it. I can't imagine boots lasting this long! I'm very satisfied and I'm very sure anyone else that has the opportunity to own a pair will become believers also. Well Done LL Bean!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from long lasting boots I bought this pair of Maine Hunting Shoe, back in 1980. This was back when they offered a 14" top and that is what these are. The rubber began cracking a couple of years ago and this year finally began coming off in small chunks. So, I sent them in for repair, the leather was still in great shape. They just returned to me yesterday looking like new. Not sure what they cost me originally but, 42.00 to restore. I really don't know how they could be beat!! Remember these are 40 year old boots with just normal care. Great boots, LL Bean, and great repair service.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Fit but get "hooked" Get ready to make a statement with these boots. The 16" tall with hooks catches the eye. Why doesn't LLB list the hooks as an option!! For less than $2 as an option, why not. Speed laces are the only way to go. I can put them on faster than my 12" boots. I've been trying them out with different socks and they fit best with medium weight socks. More than enough room in the boot top to tuck in your jeans. Will probably put the "snow seal" treatment on them eventually but now just getting familiar with the boots. I will also switch out the provided laces for waxed leather laces. This will probably be my last pair because I intend to get them resoled many times over. LLB boot resoling is a great deal. Find out more about it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just broken in I just got your 16 inch hunting boots about 44 years ago. I was just breaking them in when I got a hole in the right rubber on top of my great toe. I'm going to Kansas next week so I needed a new pair and order them from L.L. These boots are great and I'll be sending my worn out boots back to get resoled. L.L. you are/were the Man. Great American Company, I think I'll opt for the buffalo red bottoms if it can be arranged. I also have an idea to go laceless , no eyelet holes on my next pair, I'll only be 104 when I wear this new pair out and I hope yall are still in business. Capt J.H.Edwards

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Always wanted these I finally bought the 16” Maine hunting shoe after wanting them since the 1990’s. I have a wide foot but was hesitant to order because LL Bean didn’t offer these in a wide size. I read some reviews and decided to order them true to my shoe size hoping they would fit. And they do! Plenty wide and very flexible rubber foot bed. I didn’t go a size down as recommended but I think that is why the width is fine for me. I can’t comment on waterproofness yet because I am only working the boots out in front of the Christmas tree. Field time coming soon. So far so good. Call the order in and ask for the “hooks” to be installed. Makes it way easier to lace them up and if only adds $1.50 to the order. Made in the USA. Take a kid hunting.
