Adults' L.L.Bean Boa Traction Footwear is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 31.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from lost traction As hard as I can crank the BOA system, I have had to go back on my trail looking for a lost 'cleat.' This has happened more in soft snow than walking on pure ice.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from works great sizing was tough, shape of boot made a difference and since it was not available in store, and directions said either sm/med or large for size 9 one had to guess. exchanged one set and switched boots on another to get correct fit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great traction Nicely adjustable, and great traction on a snow and ice covered mountain trail. But a little hard to get completely tight. Slipped off boot once on a 1 hour hike.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ok I used these for the first time hiking up Mount Pierce. Even with being able to tighten them up nice and snug they found a way to slip off once. Overall they did provide good traction but i would like something that goes tighter around my boots.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Needs Improvement This is my second year of intermittent use. I have used them extensively over the last two weeks and was able to compare with fellow walkers using similar cleats with stretch rubber. While I initially thought they were great with more use I have found them wanting in several areas. I would note I was wearing them most with a TSL boot with a heavy Vibram sole. First thing I found was that despite cinching up as tight as I could initially, they always loosened up and required re-tightening several times. Failure to retighten guaranteed them falling off. Even with retightening I had multiple times where the heel would fall off after walking 100 ft. We also had two days where the ice was quite soft and the teeth sank in to the point that when I took a step forward the heels pulled off loosening everything which resulted in walking out of the front as well. This led to having to put them on again and repeating the process. Lastly the center cleat section it hinged and on several occasions the hinge separated. None of these things are desirable when walking on ice. I would note in the soft ice conditions my fellow hikers with stretch rubber and similar (slightly shorter spikes) had absolutely no problems. As a result I have gone from being quite positive about the design and quality to giving them a thumbs down
