Men's Stretch Pathfinder Shorts, Natural Fit is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 35.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from 40-inch waist = 44 inches My waist is 40 inches. I ordered that size because product info assured me that 40 was the size of the product, not of the wearer. (Clothiers routinely oversize products because customers routinely undersize themselves.) The "40 W" shorts for my 40-inch waist measure 44 inches of waistband, buttonhole to button. So how do I get 40-inch shorts? Order 36?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Familiar Shorts Updated I have three pair of the old pathfinder shorts that have worn well. The new shorts have a nubby fabric that looks familiar and the pockets have been streamlined. They look good. The fit is generous; the new shorts in size 38 appear to be a size larger that old shorts in size 40. The interior waistband on the new shorts is a thick elastic of a type that has proven to be too hot to wear in hot weather.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from stretchy pants Way big for a small person. Waist runs too high up to mid stomach, pant leg even at 9" is way long (seems just as long as some 10" shorts that I've purchased). If you gain inches in weight at your waist from time to time, these pants will expand / stretch to meet your needs. For me, way too much fabric to be considered comfortable shorts. They have been returned.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from A 9" inseam is too long The previous edition of Pathfinder shorts offered both 7" and 9" inseam lengths. I have been wearing the shorter version virtually ever day, for years, in Florida, When the new edition was introduced in 9" inseam only. I hesitated ordering replacements, anticipating the 7" inseam size would soon follow. Needing new shorts, I finally ordered one pair of the new edition. The 9" inseam is too long for me and probably for some others. I considered taking them for alterations, but since I need a small inventory of Bean Pathfinder shorts, that seemed a foolish expense. Quality of the new shorts is good, but requiring inseam alterations to wear Bean shorts is over the top.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Versatile and practical These shorts are suitable for a wide variety of activities. They are tough enough for hiking, the stretch makes them comfortable for working out and activities like yoga, and they look good enough for social occasions. The extra pocket is well located and big enough for a good sized smart phone.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wish there was a shorter option The sizing runs large. I was expecting to fit in a 34, but had to buy a 33. They're a bit long, which I anticipated from a 9" inseam. I just wish there was a shorter option. Based on another review I see that there used to be a 7" option and I wish that was still available.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice product. Fits well. Stretch fabric feels comfortable and is heavier than expected. It seems durable and well made. Zipper is OK. There's a convenient pocket on the outside, just right for my phone. No buttons or velcro on the back pockets to mess with is fine with me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great shorts Although I’ve been wearing LL Bean shorts for many years, these are my first pathfinders. I like the trim fit with the stretch waist. The fit is perfect for me, the shorts are very comfortable to wear. I also like the texture of the fabric, it has a nice feel to it.
