I didn’t try a size down as I found a different style/brand that worked better. Would recommend sizing down. Nice fabric, but I didn’t swim in them, they went back.

Since these have a stretch waist I bought an 18 and 16; the 16 fit great! There is enough stretch in the waist band and the hips/pockets are still flat. The cut is good, not too long in the crotch, legs loose but not baggy. Would buy a pair to hike in if I knew what would fit!
