Men's Carefree Unshrinkable Turtleneck is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 141.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Quality decline I've been buying turtlenecks from L. L. Bean for approximately 30 years. Over time the weight of the fabric has become progressively lighter, possibly in response to customer demand for light weight material. However my recent purchase was unsatisfactory for a different and more important reason. I expect that the neck and the wrists will be snug, not leaving gaps. Both of my two recent turtlenecks had significant gaps at the neck and were loose at the wrist, presumably because the elastic was nonexistent or was fitted improperly. When I put them on, they look like they have been laundered 100 times and are at the end of their life cycle.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Change in quality and fit I purchased this turtleneck in November 2019 but only started wearing it recently as the colder weather has set in. I have been purchasing and wearing L.L.Bean turtlenecks since 1990. I currently have approximately 20 of them in my possession. The quality and fit have changed. Firstly, the cotton fabric used to be heavier; its now the same weight as the Unshrinkable T's and that's inadequate for colder weather. Secondly, the cut and sizing of the garment is different: the neck and cuffs are too loose. I am disappointed. The quality has been compromised. I would rather pay more for the previous version. Please pass my comments on to your product management team. .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If only If only the products in turtlenecks for women were as well measured in length and weight as the men's, I would turn to buy them. Unfortunately, the women's sizing runs too short in both the length of the body and the arms, and the amount of fabric is more in the men's than the women's. The other downside to needing to buy in the men's department for turtlenecks is the limited color selection. But, until the company (as well as many other companies) offer the quality given to men's clothing compared to the women's (in certain items), then I will go with the limited colors, but better quality found in men's.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Solid Value I have bought numerous t shirts and long sleeve t shorts from LL Bean over the years. They are very consistent in their sizing. The cotton is good quality with a slightly heavy weight (which I like). I own 5+ of their short sleeve shirts and 5+ long sleeve t shirts. I recently started buying the mock turtle neck and now 2 of the full turtle necks. They are all all very consistent with one another. Sizing and quality is the same. Really like the neck on the turtle neck. Not too tight or too loose. Just right. It stays up. It keeps me warm during the coldest weeks here in Chicago. I will probably buy more. I would highly recommend them.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Much Prefer Original Style I purchased both this style and the original style turtleneck. I have owned several of the original style for years - practically live in them during the winter months. I do not care for the fabric of this new style. I found it ran big and thought it winkled easily, especially coming out of the dryer. I hope LLBean is not planning on discontinuing the original turtleneck. It is the best out there for the heft of fabric and wearability. This one is thin by comparison.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from New Pattern? This refers to the dark gray turtleneck which I bought only because Bean discontinued the light gray one which was my favorite. I've been through probably a dozen Bean turtlenecks (my daily winter uniform) over the years. These days Bean is the only remaining source I know for good quality ones. Bought my first dark gray one a year or two ago; it's fine. Ordered two new ones. They are about 4 inches too long in the body and somewhat wider. So, un-tucked, they hang way too low and look and feel wrong. Turns out Bean shifted production from Cambodia to Vietnam; maybe the pattern got lost in the process. Very sad if this is true for all size large colors. One hopes those in charge will take note and restore the old tried and true pattern. We old geezers need our fine Bean turtlenecks.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Gone down hill The men's interlock turtleneck used to be perfect but no longer. Not even close. The material is thin. The turtleneck part is ridiculously high. The sleeves are much too long. The garment is much too long; the hem hits below one's derriere. After 30 years of purchasing LLBean's cotton turtleneck, my relationship with the company is over. If they can't make a turtleneck for humans and not gorillas I doubt they could produce other garments of quality. Very disappointing.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Miss the Old Shirts! Bring back the original turtleneck and mock neck shirts. The good...i like the lighter weight of the new material and the shirt runs a little large which is fine. The bad...the neck on both the mock and the turtleneck are too large. It took years to find the perfect shirts and the old ones were and then some knucklehead goes and changes them.
