Adventure Pro Duffle, 40L is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor Strap Design The bag itself seems great--high quality, good material, tons of pockets. The downfall is the backpack straps (specifically why I purchased). They clip on the top and bottom of the bag, but only the bottom is adjustable. While that's pretty standard, the length of the strap on top is very long. I'm not a small person by any means and the straps hang down way too far on my body, cutting into my arms rather than providing comfort on my shoulders. If you put the straps on your shoulders, the bag hangs off your back. So, I would highly recommend if you don't care about the backpack straps, but keep looking if that's the feature you're looking for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Black Plum Ordered the black plum. Nice color. It is amazing quality. Will last for 10 to 20 years for sure. Its small enough to fit in overhead compartments or even jam under the seat if its not too packed. Lots of space inside. The backpack option with the straps is neat and is updated so it stays on your shoulders. Would have liked to seen a little bigger on inside, but not as big as the 60L. I think you could get away with a 45L and have it still travel well. Def a quality duffel bag. Materials appear almost waterproof. Zippers are nice too. Perfect number of compartments. And antimicrobial liner is a must.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Duffle The bags I purchased in the past that were specifically for swimming gear always seemed to fall apart and were not well made. This duffle is awesome for all my swim stuff and holds up well with wet stuff inside or out! I can fit my flippers, a couple of towels, and shower gear without difficulty. Love the pockets for all the little extras. I don't use the backpack straps so super happy these were removable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rugged, high-quality, well-organized bag This is the best duffle bag we've ever bought hands down and our favorite L.L. Bean bag! We have used L.L. Bean bags for the past 2+ decades and have never been disappointed in the quality. They continue to keep taking abuse and holding up incredibly well. This bag is even more rugged and we love the more useable shape and interior organization compared to our other L.L. Bean duffle bags. It is very rugged, durable, and amazingly water-resistant. The inner organization is very handy and helps keep gear organized. The zippers are high quality and the material is very resistant to tears and soiling. It can fit a surprising amount of gear thanks to its mostly square shape - perfect for airline travel with almost no wasted space, and also easier to carry than a rounder duffle bag. Contrary to what some reviews mentioned, the top portion of the shoulder straps above the shoulder pads are fully adjustable, once you know how they are supposed to connect to the bag. When we first got this, we were stymied by the shoulder straps, which seemed ridiculously long at the top, causing the bag to hang too low...until we looked more closely at the close-up picture on the website of the upper strap connection and realized they are completely adjustable not only at the bottom below the shoulder padding, but also at the top between the padding and the bag! The upper end of each strap is threaded through the corresponding loops on the bag, then clipped into one of the horizontal webbing straps on the padded shoulder harness, depending on the desired length. This makes it totally adjustable for different heights! We included a picture showing how thes straps can be adjusted differently for different height people (one strap is at the longest height, one at a medium height). It would have been very helpful if L.L. Bean had included instructions for this since it is not the usual way shoulder straps connect on convertible bags and customers can miss the non-intuitive shoulder strap setup and think that this bag makes a terrible backpack. We use the 40L bag for carry-on travel and the larger bags for wilderness medical and climbing gear. These bags are definitely worth the price, having such high quality materials, great shape, good inner organization, and convertibility into a backpack.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High Quality Got this one on sale. I loved the orange color. Easy to spot in overhead bins and amongst the black bags. Its so high quality. The zippers are heavy duty. The material is highly waterproof and resistant to wear and tear. Nice you can wear it as a backpack or duffle. This one is smaller. Good for overnight bag. Or carry on. I have the 60L as well, which will hold enough for about 4 days easy, if you know how to pack. Overall, these are legendary bags and will most likely last me forever.
