Men's Maine Guide Zip-Front Wool Vest, Plaid is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Versatile & warm This vest is just what I was looking for. Very versatile with a traditional look. It can be worn to the office or outside raking leaves. I am average size guy between Med & Large. The Large was just too big around the mid section so I returned and went with a Medium. The Medium fits perfect, looks great and goes with about any shirt and slacks from from business casual office to jeans. I have worn the vest almost daily (fall weather) since I received it as my go to outer wear and I plan to use during winter months under my winter jacket as and when I need an additional layer. Great quality and price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well tailored Quality of the materials and the construction of this vest is excellent. The wool shell is tightly woven and has not pilled. Its roomy enough to comfortably go over a Bean chamois shirt and a thin cotton sweater for layering and still be roomy. The colors of the vest are beautifully dyed. Its warm and comfy and looks great sitting at home or out to a restaurant. It falls perfectly at my waist and is well tailored. It's hard to find a vest that looks this good, so practical and so well made.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just Right I have always loved vests, and own several. And in truth, I was concerned that this wool vest might be a little scratchy. However I've found this vest to be very comfortable. I wear a thin shirt underneath it and it doesn't itch at all. It does it's job of keeping your core warm and it breathes. I wear it in the office and on the weekends. The collar is comfortable and I like the pockets and I like the fact that it's falls just a touch below the belt line, at least it does on a short guy like me. Yes, you may get the occasional comment like "you look like a lumberjack" but I think that just means they are jealous and want one too! A black shirt worn underneath and then a black outer coat makes for a nice look too I think. Color me very pleased and yes, I'd recommend it to others.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Needs some improvements I liked the vest cut, fabric and print, but a bolder, dark non-metallic zipper would make it easier to find and zip without looking. It has a thin, bright, sharp zipper and problematic start. I found the vest to be difficult to put on and take off, due to it does not have a silky fabric to reduce friction, such as silk or rayon on the inside. My shirts stick to the interior when putting the vest on or taking it off. I find that really irritating. For the price of this vest, it should not have these issues.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from OK, needs refinement I purchased two of these, one in solid Loden green, and a second in the Malone plaid. (I assumed that the review would be posted under both item numbers, but it wasn’t, so I’m submitting it again for the plaid version.) They’re pretty good, but there are a couple of ways they could be better. First of all, the product info page says that the jacket ends at the belt line; it doesn’t. Just look at the picture on the solid color page: the vest ends somewhere between the wrist and the base of your thumb when your arms are hanging — that’s several inches below the belt, unless you’re a classic 80s B-Boy. That’s OK, but because the vest is as long as it is, a two-way zipper would be much appreciated for getting the bunching out of the way when the garment is worn while you’re sitting down. Second, the vest fits like a Korean War - era pup tent, which again is OK; I wanted it to fit both over a shirt, and also over a bulky sweater, and this fit will accommodate that goal. However, it would be very nice to be able to take in a bit of the extra slack when it’s worn over a shirt, either by means of a back belt adjustment, or with side tabs. Finally, in case anyone is wondering, I checked with LLBean’s Customer Support staff who told me that it is made from virgin wool, rather than reprocessed wool; neither the product page nor a garment label specifies that. Overall, these will work for my needs, but a couple of minor refinements would allow them to work much better.
