Men's Double L Waxed-Cotton Upland Coat is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 28.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from upland hunter field coat upgrade this coat is not true to original field coat. double wax outer coating, machine washing and front loading game pouch drew me to purchase. Who did the fitting on this jacket? this jacket can not have been field tested. upper pockets are too high for caring a gun. Gun shell pockets are loose even on 12ga.they fall out a lot, Sewing bottoms does not give option for shells larger 2/34" shells. Hope LLB will pay more attention to what made them a leader in hunting and out door sports, other than flannel. long time purchaser of all LLB clothing & equipment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great replacement to my beloved Barbour wax jacket I bought my Barbour wax jacket in the UK when we lived in the English countryside 25 years ago. I finally had to retire it after much wear and tear. I almost pushed the button to purchase a new one when I saw the LLBean wax jacket. After much debate, I went with the LLBean. It has many more features (I love the shotgun shell holders in the pockets) at nearly half the price. My only criticisms are: I wish the wax jacket had more of a waxy sheen (I miss the smell of the Barbour wax jacket); I miss the corduroy collar of the Barbour; and the inside of the sleeves are flannel, which makes it difficult to pull it over flannel shirts or sweaters. Otherwise, it's a great replacement, but I still can't discard my old Barbour.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from fantastic jacket Overall this is an excellent jacket. I can wear this jacket to the office on Friday, out hunting on Saturday, and to church on Sunday. Its not super warm, so it will be comfortable to wear grouse hunting on an October day in Wisconsin. I am also comfortable wearing it on walks in January with a flannel and sweater underneath. I am typically size L, but ordered an XL so that I could comfortably wear the additional layers. The fabric was still a little waxy right out of the box, and I got covered in sawdust working in my woodshop the first day wearing it. It cleaned up fine with one wash cycle and has since broken in beautifully.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waxed Coat - Too Sticky For Our Taste This looked like a great coat for my son. It was a bit expensive when not on sale but I thought LL Bean makes great jackets/coats so he will have this for many years. The coat arrived in clear plastic. It was sticky to the touch. He tried it on and it fit perfectly. He loved the appearance of the coat. We washed it in accordance with the directions on the tag and hung it wet to dry. The coat was amazingly beyond sticky when it was wet. Once the coat was dry, it was still sticky to the touch. LL Bean graciously sent us a replacement coat. We never took it out of the plastic. It was also sticky which was truly dissappointing. My research showed Waxed cotton can be sticky to the touch. We sadly returned both coats. Lesson learned....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality This jacket exceeded my expectations. I bought it for my husband, and he loves it as well. The quality is everything we were looking for. The fit was true to size, long in the sleeve but not bothersome. If you're looking for high quality waxed cotton this is the coat. There are many pockets, and while he won't be stuffing them with pheasant it holds everything he needs and keeps him very warm during commuting. The collar is a suede type of material and has held up well. The zipper (dual: another great aspect) and buttons are sturdy and zip/close with ease.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I hoped Been keeping my eyes open for a waxed cotton coat to serve as a casual 3 season coat. I was very pleased when I received this coat as it was just what I hoped for. The fit was good, heavy weight but not too heavy, and great rain protection. A really nice feature is the pockets. As a duck hunter type coat there is plenty of useful pockets including the wraparound accessible from the front for game or other items as needed. I personally don't expect to be putting ducks in the game pocket but imagine I could fit a blanket or like items when going to a sporting event. Truly a great coat.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wide Body Quality is excellent. I wish I could have kept it. Unfortunately, the middle of the body is cut too large. It is a utilitarian fowl hunting jacket--I was looking for something a little more trim-fitting. I don't think it's an issue of just "ordering up or down." An internal cinch string around the midsection might have solved the problem. For some uses and body types, this will be an amazing jacket. For me, it didn't fit quite right.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wonderful Coat The waxed upland coat is a wonderfully made garment and the outside pockets are more than adequate. I took off a star because it lacked inside pockets which I need to store secure documents while travelling. Though I noted that the fit was true, it has enough room inside to wear a thick sweater to increase warmth. Although I didn't have an opportunity to wear it while it's raining, I think the wax covering will hold its own - thank goodness it doesn't smell, too! Overall a well made coat and I highly recommend it.
