Men's Ultralight 850 Down Jacket is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 156.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Makes a Good Sweater After wearing this on my daily walks for a week in mild temps(mid-40s) with 2 other layers I would classify jacket as borderline warm but very light weight and comfortable.I like the 3 zip outside pockets and the one large non-zip inside one, but i can't imagine wearing it in the 25º temps it is recommended for. I have 2 older LLB coats in my closet that are much better suited for cold weather. I think it would be great for running errands where you are not outside much. I am mostly wearing it inside in lieu of a sweater. There is a lot of freedom of movement and it looks nice. I'm really glad i bought this on sale($100).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional! Just perfection I pondered and pondered over getting this jacket as I just could not believe that anything so light was going to keep me warm in Maine winters - I waited too long to start enjoying this! It keeps me warm on walks, out shoveling the driveway or just going to the grocery store - everywhere. It also is fantastic in that you don't roast when you get into a store from the outside. Just perfect and feels like you are wearing nothing but a windbreaker. If you have been considering the 850-Down, stop considering and start enjoying! The item is true to fit - as states: Slightly Fitted. I would recommend sizing up if you are on the cusp.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Need another layer I agree with others who commented that the coat is not as warm as advertised. I wore this for the first time in the recent cold snap in Massachusetts, temperature about 35 degrees. I never wear another layer underneath, but with this coat and walking outside from a long parking lot to dinner, I was disappointed and thinking that I need a sweater or pullover underneath it to feel warm. This is probably a good November coat, but probably not for December to February without layers.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good down jacket for sale price This jacket fits very well, with a comfortable collar, draw closure at the bottom and nice elastic cuffs. The workmanship is very good. My concern is that the nylon fabric is somewhat stiff and after several wearings and two air tumble-dryings with tennis balls, the baffles are still quite flat and the down compacted. Cold air noticeably seeps through the seams between baffles, and this jacket is no warmer than my LL Bean PrimaLoft Packaway Jacket at this point. Hoping that the fabric will soften over time and allow the baffles to become more circular and the seams better insulated.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Way Too Optimistic Rating My wife and I just bought these jackets and we think they are great except the temperature ratings are absurd. I just came back from a brisk walk wearing LL Bean's heavy weight long john 1/4 zip top and at 35 degrees out, I was cool. Nice looking and fitting jacket, but you don't want to wear these in temps anywhere near what Bean has rated them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light as air, warm as toast After nearly 20 years I was still overjoyed with my Bean Flying Tiger leather jacket in the wintertime. (And when the temperature dropped below 20 degrees, I simply wore my Bean Sweater Fleece beneath it for even more warmth). However, I have to admit that my beloved Flying Tiger is a tad heavy. So when my father-in-law bought a 850 Down Jacket, and it was as light as air, I had to buy one for myself. So comfortable, so warm, so light--and yet it's good to minus 25 degrees! And knowing Bean products, I'll probably have this jacket as long as I've enjoyed my Flying Tiger. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Quality/Stitching tears I purchased an 850 jacket several years ago and it was of good quality. I recently purchased a second 850 jacket and the seams tear and the down feathers come out. I initially gave Bean the benefit of the doubt and used my wader repair kit to seal the tears. Not one week later, additional tears developed. Very disappointed and wasted my money on this jacket.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from poor quality Bought the coat in April of 2019 and it's already ripped at the seam. Maybe wore it for 3 months. I would pass on this one.
