Men's L.L.Bean Heavyweight Base Layer Crew, Long Sleeve is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 30.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from quite warm I think being labeled as "Heavyweight" may turn some people off, me included. I didn't want something that was heavy. I wanted something that was warm but not unduly bulky and this surely is just what I was looking for. Really warm and hot heavy at all. I think that being called "Extreme Cold" base layer would describe this article much better than "Heavyweight". If I wanted something that was heavy I would have bought wool! One other minor complaint- I don't believe the thumb holes at the end of the sleeves are needed. I guess they don't really hurt anything but I never use them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Great I work in a warehouse without heat in California. Sometimes I sit extended periods of time in the cold. Other times I'm moving around the length of this 6500 sq. ft building. This and the medium weight version recently purchased are just right. Never scratchy, long enough to tuck in and never awkwardly bulky. An added plus is the thumb slit located at the bottom of the sleeve. Almost like a fingerless glove for warmth and yet allowing fingers to be used without botheration. I roll it into a cuff when I am doing wet work. So keep making these with the thumb slit! Hope they'll still be available when I want to buy more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Base layer (Heavyweight) Buying this heavyweight base layer with wicking function really is a blessing because I walk regularly outdoor including winter season. Started using this base layer in Dec. in Tennessee and when temperature was below 50 degrees F, it worked for me. Instead of sweating all over my body, the base layer keeps minimal moisture next to my skin. I wear a fleece outside this base layer and a snow coat over the fleece. I love thumb holds of this product to keep my hands covered to metacarpals. After walking, hang the base layer up, and it will be dried and ready for the next walking day. Still need to wear gloves and a hat when temperature outside is below 40.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pretty good shirt The fit on me was a bit tight, but I think maybe that's the way an under layer should fit. Nice and warm. I very much appreciate the thumb holes in the bottom of the sleeves. No wrestling with a missing sleeve after the next layer is put on. I know women's clothing has had this feature for a while now and I'm glad to see someone has adopted it for men's cloths. How about putting one in more winter pullovers?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Comfortable The fit was a little snug, but comfortable. I consider the product a midweight base layer, not a heavyweight base layer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from would buy again I bought this in place of the Cresta midweight wool top because of quality issues I had with the sagging neck on the wool. The heavyweight fits better is warmer and much better quality than the Cresta wool.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from light weight warmth It is light weight warmth. My only complain is it is tight in the fore arms, the first time I wore it. Hopefully it gets better with washes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This under layer shirt ROCKS I love to hunt and I am a letter carrier in Maine. I am outside a lot. This under layer shirt is awesome. I wear this on my skin with a turtle neck over it and I am toasty warm. Like today I was hunting up in Rangely,Maine this morning. It was 1 degree and quite breezy. I had this on with a turtle neck and two fleece jackets. I was very comfortable. I’ve owned two other of these and I can’t say enough about them. I wish they came in more colors because they look great as a stand alone shirt too.
