Women's Ultralight 850 Down Hooded Coat is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 447.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! I tried lightweight coats from Pantagonia, Eddy Bauer & Lands End before settling on this. I'm 165 lbs, 5'8, & 34FF. The medium Misses fits great - it's shapely. It's easy to stuff in a backpack while shopping. Didn't think I'd use the hood as I wear a hat, but have pulled it up frequently. I live in Nova Scotia, where we have cold winters, but this keeps me warm. Suggestions for next year: Brighter colours - winters are so dark & grey, it's nice to ease that with brighter colours. And add a couple of inches longer, to cover skirts/dresses. But I'm very happy after a long search. My coat is a lovely navy blue & I wear it with a bright pink scarf.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Ultralight is right! I have the 860 in 3 other pieces - a vest, the sweater and a heavier, but short puffer jacket with hood. I love how lightweight all of them are. I ordered the "Marine" blue color thinking it looked more Navy but it's definitely more blue than navy. Fit is slightly bigger than the other 860s I have but nothing way off. Nice transition piece when you don't want to get out your ultra heavy puffers yet. The description says it fits in a pocket built in which I am sure it does but I couldn't figure out how to get it in there and there aren't any instructions online or that come on the coat tags. I need a quick tutorial!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing I bought this coat in November and returned it in early December. My handle on this site is couture LL Bean. I’m a loyalist. I bought this as an around town coat for moderate temperatures. However this coat failed in quality and warmth. Quality: began to fray at the zipper and, whether by cat claws or snag on a grocery cart, developed holes in several places. How well would this hold up hiking or snowshoeing in the woods? Warmth: the wind whipped through the zipper and generally not as warm as advertised. Without a placket covering the zipper, this was not very warm in moderately cold temps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb! What a find! Packs up small, is virtually weightless, water repellant, and snuggly. The hood is spacious (and adjustable) and warm. I just took it on a trip to Iceland (the small size helped me to pack everything for my trip into 1 small piece of carryon luggage) where temps were rainy and in the 40s-50s (degrees F). With proper layering this Coat could easily keep you warm in 30 degree temps. I'm 5'7" 135 lbs and the medium was plenty roomy while wearing 2 shirts beneath it. If you prefer a trim fit, the small would work fine too. The coat washes beautifully. I air dried and put into the dryer with tennis balls to fluff it up and finish drying it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Weightless warmth Warm, lightweight, and well designed w/flattering lines and many useful features: snugly fitting adjustable hood, sleeve cuffs, 2-way zipper, zippered hand pockets, soft fleece lining the zipper at the face/neck, and 2 internal pockets (one zipped) on the inside lower half of the coat. To make the coat perfect, I'd add locking toggles to the strings of the adjustable hood and would add an inside zippered chest pocket for phone. Length is just right - keeps the hips and thighs warm but still easy to get in and out of the car. I chose the XL to give room for bulky sweaters. Thrilled with this coat!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the investment!! Hands down one of the best purchases I’ve made! I bought the shorter version jacket last year, and realized this year I really needed something that would give me more coverage As a plus size, curvy woman it’s often difficult to find the right fit for me in the bust & hip area, and this jacket is perfect!! Great quality, extremely lightweight, and cozy. I even have room to layer with a Lightweight fleece vest when it’s really cold out. Also, the ability to unzip partially from the bottom helps getting into & out of car really easy! Treat yourself, you’ll enjoy it for years, its worth the investment!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fabric is light but not durable Although the coat is comfortable, light weight and easy to pack, yet warm, the fabric easily ripped. For someone who is not active, it may suffice, but it has ripped from pressure from a shovel handle and from dogs jumping up. I am very active, work in home health care and need something more durable. It ripped in the first month and I have had more small tears since then, covering with duck tape to keep down from escaping. I can get away with it because I live in Vermont, but it’s not very stylish. Wish it was more durable. I would recommend it otherwise, but a down coat loses its warmth pretty quickly when holes develop and the down escapes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice coat I had wanted something a bit longer than a jacket, so I settled on this coat. I love the plum color and the coat is light and also almost a packaway . . . at least I was able to stuff it almost completely into its own pocket, even though it wasn't designed to do that. It was not quite as warm as I'd expected, but I like the fact that it sheds water since I spent most of my holidays in the rain. On the other hand, I don't like that it also sheds feathers. As far as fit, I was happy that the plus sizes were designed to fit average-height women (not like a competitor's coat that had the slightly fitted waist down around my hips!).
