Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Shoes, could be improved I am giving these shoes 5 stars because I like them a lot. They are very comfortable, can be worn all day, and are all leather, so they breathe well and don't smell. They were quite snug when I got them, but within 30 minutes they felt comfortable and fit well. They have relaxed even more in the past 3 months, but fit comfortably. I recommend ordering your correct size. There are two issues I have with the shoes. First, as pointed out by others, the soles, which I think are EVA, wear really fast. I have had these for 3 months and have worn the tread off the front, mid-foot, and heel of the shoes. This is walking about a mile a day in them. I will get them re-soled because they are comfortable, but this is silly if these shoes are supposed to last. The other issue is that there could stand to be a bit more cushioning. I walk in Boston in these shoes, and when walking fast, I feel like they could use a bit more cushioning.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No better shoe I always wait a while before writing a review of shoes, because it takes months of wear and varying conditions before one has an idea of a shoe's quality. Well, this is two years I've owned this pair of shoes. I wear them nearly every day. I've worn them hiking, at work, in winter, in summer. My conclusion is that there is no better shoe to be had. They fit as if they were designed specifically for me; at times, I scarcely know I'm wearing shoes. The soles will probably last another two years, and there isn't stitch that isn't intact. You can pay five times as much, but you'll never find a shoe as good as this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality and comfortable shoe This is my first pair of LL Bean casual shoes; I have usually worn Sperry or Timberland. I must say I am absolutely amazed at how comfortable these shoes were right out of the box. As well, the quality is very impressive. I am very pleased and I will likely order again with time. I wear a 11 to 11 1/2 in Timberland and 12 in Sperry. I had ordered 12 with LL Bean and it was perfect. Again, a great quality shoe, sized appropriately and amazing comfort and support.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from great shoe, bad soles This is one of the most comfortable shoes I have purchased and look quite nice. Unfortunately there exist a flaw> The soles, which should be the most durable part of the soe, are its weakest point. It is made of a soft rubber which doesn't take much to wear down. I don't walk much and work sitting down all day long. I also have other shoes, I rotate them so this shoe does not get worn daily. I noticed in less than a year, the soles wore down and the heal was really wearing down at an unnatural looking angle. I took them back and they were nice enough to replace them. However, the same is happening to the replacement and now I try not to wear them much. What good is your favorite shoe ir you're afraid to wear it. You would think the part that gets the most severe wear, the sole, would be the toughest. You would also think LL Bean being aware of this problem would rectify the situation. Surely it would be more cost effective to put on a more durable sole than keep replacing the entire shoe.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from something wrong with the soles I bought these shoes for my husband to replace another pair of similar but not LL Bean shoes. Where the other pair lasted years this pair did not make it a year as the heels completely wore down. Based on other posts this is not an isolated problem. Sending them back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredibly comfortable These shoes are not the prettiest things you'll ever have on your feet, but they certainly will be the most comfortable. At times, I have to wiggle my toes to know that I'm even wearing them. If they were hand-tailored to my foot, the fit couldn't be better. Those of us with those half-sizes and EE widths have a notoriously hard time finding shoes that even approximate being okay. These shoes don't compromise. They're absolute top of the line. I've had mine for over a year, wear them every day, and they show nearly no sign of wear on the inside.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Love these, but.... I have 2 pairs of these shoes and I love them, another customer wrote, the soles do not last very long and due to the method used to secure the sole to the upper, replacement is very expensive. I spent $80 to replace the soles on one pair because the uppers were in great shape and I couldn't bring myself to simply replace with a new pair. If Bean could change that this would be a 5 star without a doubt. Having said that, I have no regrets and would recommend them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from plastic orthotic user The three eyelet design of these shoes helps keeping me from walking out of these shoes. The width and length accommodated my orthotics, perfectly. They are very comfortable and stylish in a raisin color. As a big guy of 250 lbs. it would be nice to have more support, but the shoes do nicely. Quality, style, and value at a reasonable price.
